Apr 10 - Chemist of the Year and Annual Awards Banquet. Dr. Lisa F. Szczepura (Illinois State University) was named 2011 Chemist of the Year. She spoke at the Gateway Center in Peoria. Student Awards were also distributed.

Feb 23- Performance of Bhopal at Illinois State University's Center for the Performing Arts. We had a block of tickets available for this performance, which began at 7:30 pm. They were available for $10 until February 1 and may be available from the box office itself after that.
Feb 28 - Open Symposium on Bhopal at ISU's Concert Hal at the Center for the Performing Arts, 7-9 pm. A panel of speakers will be discussing issues related to the lethal December 3, 1984, methylisocyanate leak at a Union Carbide plant located in Bhopal, India. The idea is that folks will have seen the play and then can come to that event, and it sure would be nice to see some local scientists get involved in the discussion. The symposium was a free admission event.

Aug 12-20 - Illinois Local Sections of the American Chemical Society Tent at Illinois State Fair. We had many volunteers from the Illinois Heartland Local Section participate in the Tent this year. For more details see the website for that activity: acsillinoisstatefair.org
